காதல்...

இன்று காலை எழுந்ததில் இருந்து ஆனந்த் ரொம்பவே பரபரப்பாக இருந்தான். கண்ணாடியில் அவன் முகம் பார்த்து வெட்கப்பட்டு கொண்டான். இன்றோடு பத்து வருஷம் ஆகுது லாவன்யாவை பார்த்து.

பார்த்த முதல் நாளே அவள்மேல் காதல் கொண்டான். இந்த பத்து வருசத்துல நெறைய பேசியாச்சி, பழகியாச்சி ஆனா தன்னோட காதல சொல்ல இன்னும் ஆனந்துக்கு தைரியம் வரவில்லை. "எப்படியாவுது இன்னிக்கி லாவண்யா கிட்ட சொல்லிடனும்" தனக்கு தானே சொல்லிக்கொண்டான். லெட்டர், ஒரு ரோஜா ரெண்டுமே இருக்கு எப்படியும் இன்னிக்கி சொல்லிடனும் - மனதுக்குள் சபதம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

நேத்து இரவு முழுக்க இதே சிந்தனை தான் - எப்படி ஆரம்பிக்கறது? தப்பா நெனசிட்டா ? மறுபடியும் அதே பழைய தயக்கம். சொன்னதும் சிரிப்பாலோ? சரி என்ன நடந்தாலும் கவலையில்லை எப்படி சொல்லிடனும். அவளை முதல்ல பார்த்த நாளுல இருந்து இன்னிக்கி வரைக்கும் எப்படி அவளை உயிருக்கு உயிரா காதல் செயுறேன்னு சொல்லிடனும். இந்த அவஸ்தை இதுக்கு மேல வேணாம்.

தன்னோட பெட்டிய தொறந்து எல்லா வாழ்த்து அட்டையையும் எடுத்து வைத்துக்கொண்டான். மறுபடியும் கண்ணாடி முன்னாடி இன்னும் ஒரு தடவை எல்லாத்தையும் சொல்லி பார்த்துக்கொண்டான். லாவண்யா உன்னை நான் உயிருக்கு உயிரா காதலிக்குறேன், எவ்வளவோ தடவை சொல்லணும் நெனச்சி இருக்கேன் ஆனா... இல்ல நேத்துல இருந்து பயிற்சி பண்ணினது இது இல்லை.

தன்னை தானே கோவமா பார்த்துக்கொண்டான். எவ்வளவு பயிற்சி பண்ணியாச்சி இப்பவே இப்படி உளறின அப்புறம் லாவண்யா முன்னாடி கண்டிப்பா சொல்ல முடியாது. சரி கடைசியா ஒரு முயற்சி - லாவண்யா உன்கிட்ட ஒரு விஷயம் சொல்லணும் நீ தப்பா நெனச்சிக்க கூடாது, ரொம்ப நாலா மனசுக்குள்ள போட்டு பூட்டி வெச்சி இருக்கேன் இனிமேல் முடியாது.

உன்ன பத்து வருசமா காதலிக்குறேன், எத்தனையோ தடவை சொல்லணும் நெனச்சி இருக்கேன் ஆனா தைரியம் வரல. உனக்காக இந்த பத்து வருசமா நான் வாங்கி வெச்சி கொடுக்காத வாழ்த்து அட்டை, கடைசியா வாங்கின கரடி பொம்மை எல்லாத்தையும் கொண்டுவந்து இருக்கேன் - இது கொஞ்சம் சரியா வந்த மாதிரி இருந்தது அவனுக்கு. கண்ணாடியை பார்த்து சிரித்துக்கொண்டான்.

அவனுக்கு பின்னாடி யாரோ நடந்து வரும் சத்தம். இருதயம் வேகமா துடிக்க ஆரம்பிக்கிறது. அது லாவண்யா தான். ஒருதடவை மூச்சி வாங்கி கொண்டான். மெதுவாக திரும்பி லாவன்யாவை பார்த்தான். பத்து வருசத்துக்கு முன்னாடி பார்த்த மாதிரியே இருந்தாள். லாவண்யா உன்கிட்ட ஒரு ... ஆனந்த் பேச ஆரம்பித்ததும் "அப்பா" என்று ஆசையாக கழுத்தை கட்டி கொண்டால் அவன் செல்ல மகள் சித்ரா.

தான் பார்த்து காதலித்த (யாருக்கும் தெரியாமல்) பெண்ணையே அப்பா அம்மா பார்த்துட்டு வந்து சொன்னதும் ஆனந்துக்கு உலகமே கைக்குள் வந்த சந்தோஷம். லாவன்யாவை பெண் பார்த்த அன்றே அவளிடம் சொல்லவேண்டும் என்று நினைத்தான் ஆனால் வார்த்தை வரவில்லை. இன்றோடு பத்து வருஷம் ஓடிவிட்டது.

கடவுளுக்கு ஒரு கடிதம் ...

இந்த கடிதம் கடவுள் இருக்காரா? இல்லையா? என்ற கேள்விக்கு விடை தேடும் முயற்சி இல்லை. கடவுள் இருக்கார் அல்லது நம்மை விட பெரிய சக்தி ஒன்று உள்ளது என்ற நம்பிக்கையில் வாழும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மக்களில் ஒருவன் நான். என் மீது சிறு வயதில் இருந்து திணிக்கப்பட்ட நம்பிக்கையின் மீது எழுந்த, எழும் கேள்விகளை இங்கே கேட்கின்றேன்.

கடவுள் விடை அளிப்பாரா?

• இந்த உலகில் என் இவ்வளவு ஏற்றத்தாழ்வுகள்?
• ஏழைகள், அனாதைகள், உடல் ஊனமுற்றவர்கள் செய்த பாவம் என்ன?
• போன ஜென்மத்தில் செய்த பாவத்தினால் இந்த ஜென்மத்தில் இப்படி அவதிபடுகிறார்கள் என்ற வாதம் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியவில்லை. செய்த பாவம் என்ன என்று தெரியாமல் தண்டனை அனுபவிப்பது நியாயமா?
• தவறு செய்யும் மக்கள் சுகபோகத்துடன் வாழ்வதும், நேர்மையாய் இருப்பவர்கள் அவதிபடுவதும் எந்த விதத்தில் தர்மம்?
• தீவிரவாதிகளின் குண்டுகளுக்கு அப்பாவி மக்கள் பலியாவது யார் செய்த பாவம்?
• சில ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் பள்ளியில் தீயில் கருகி இருந்த குழந்தைகள் செய்த குற்றம் என்ன? அவர்களுக்கு என் இந்த தண்டனை?
• சுனாமியில் இறந்து போனவர்கள் எல்லாரும் போன ஜென்மத்தில் பாவம் செய்தவர்களா?

இது போல பல கேள்விகள் என் போன்ற கோடிக்கணக்கான மக்களின் மனதில் இருக்கும். எல்லாம் விதிப்படி நடக்கும் என்றால் அந்த விதியை ஏன் இப்படி எழுத வேண்டும்?

குரங்கில் இருந்து பிறந்த மனிதன் பாவம் செய்தது விதியின் பயனால் தானே? அப்படியானால் மனிதனை பாவம் செய்ய சொன்னது யார் குற்றம்?

கடவுள் இதற்கு விடை அளிப்பாரா?

5 Successful years …

I dedicate this post to my wonderful friend Arun who has completed 5 successful years of service in his first job. He joined has a fresher in a software company and this week he completed his 5 years service in the same company.

He is a valuable resource to the company and played significant roles in the last 5 years. I wish him success in all aspects of his life. His ambition is to become a CEO of company and I wish to become a CEO and be a successful man in his life.

Congrats Machi!! Wish you good luck. Love u.

Aah …

I heard a lot about writer Sujatha and about his novel through my friend in the last few months. My friend is a die hard fan of Sujatha and always praises Sujatha’s work to the core. After few months I got curious to read Sujatha’s novel and read few novels. They are really impressive and the level of knowledge the Author has got on the subject is really awesome.

You could have observed that in the movies like Anniyan, Sivaji etc. My friend suggested me to read a novel called “Aah” and the story is about an IIT guy suffering from “Auditory hallucination”. I was really surprised on hearing the plot of the story. Imagine a young guy (passed out from IIT and working in a software company) started hearing voice and the voice persuades him to commit suicide (Interesting right?).

The interesting part of the novel is that each episode of the novel ends with the word “Aah”. If you get a chance then try reading this novel and I am sure you will like it.

Dasavatharam – Review ...

Kamal Hasan deserves 10 Oscar. This is the thought came to my mind when I came out of the theatre last night. What a thought and performance. No other actor in the world can even think of doing such a film even in his wildest of the dreams. You can see the dedication and passion that Kamal has towards making a good movie and taking his acting to a new level.

He sets his own standards and tries to achieve them time and again. When the film started and for the first 2 minutes I thought this is going to be another “Hey Ram” but it is not. I still wonder how this man can speak in 10 different accent, style, modulation, language with matching body language. I was really impressed by the “Vincent Poovaragan”, “Balram Naidu”, “Tall man” (Forgot the name of the character) and “Krishnaveni” (95 yrs old women) characters.

Story is simple and pretty ordinary however the way Kamal linked all 10 characters is what makes this film interesting. Graphics were really good (Don’t compare with Hollywood films) and the Tsunami scene at the climax worth a mention here. My Kudos to Kamal and the entire unit.

This film worth a watch and I wish Kamal gets fitting recognition for his effort.

Cricket in England...

Last week I played cricket in a ground near to my house. The very reason I am mentioning this is I played the cricket match in England and again English people. People working in various project formed a team (initial feeling is like seeing “Lagaan” team) and we played against a opponent who are players playing for small counties.

I thoroughly enjoyed the match and the entire match was played with extraordinary sportsmanship. End of the day “Cricket” is the winner. English people in the opponent team are really friendly and played with real spirit and sportsmanship. One player from my side (Infact captain of my side) got bowled in the very first ball and the opponent offered another chance to the player to play. They wanted everyone to play at least a ball.

That was really a excellent gesture and moved everyone of us. We won the toss and scored 209/9 in 40 over. Our innings has few rollercoaster rides like having good partnership and then sudden burst of wickets and then consolidation for sometime etc. I was playing this game after 2 years time and was not confident when I went to the middle to bat. After the initial jitter I was able to pick the line with some comfort and scored 20 runs.

I and another player consolidated the innings in the last few over and gave a solid partnership after a sudden fall of wickets in quick succession. Bowling in the turf was another new experience for me. I used to play for my college team and we usually play in the mat. Bowling in turf need lot more skill and tough when compared to bowling in mat.

End of the day the opponent team won the match comfortably in 30 over with 4 wickets to spare. We all enjoyed the game and had a nice time last weekend. We are planning to have matches like this in the future.

Dasavatharam...

I am really looking forward to see the clock ticking 9.15 pm on Thursday (12th June). Dasavatharam is getting released in UK on 12th June. I am excited to say the least. To watch this high profile movie on the first day (Even before my friends in India gets a chance to see) is something special.

I am sure we all are going to have nice time and our expectations will be fulfilled. I am going to call all my friends (on 13th June) in India and especially Arun in USA to tell them the story scene by scene.

I will post the review as soon as I come home on Thursday night. Watch this space for review. Cheers.

தமிழ் இனி விரைவில் சாகும்...

இரண்டு தினங்களுக்கு முன் வார இறுதியில் நேரத்தை கடத்த சிரமப்பட்டு கொண்டு இருந்தேன். அப்பொழுது நண்பருடன் சில விவாதத்தில் ஈடுபட்டேன். அந்த விவாதத்தின் சாரத்தை இங்க தந்துள்ளேன். சில நாட்களுக்கு முன் திடீரென்று ஒரு நண்பர் "Compare " என்ற ஆங்கில வார்த்தையை தமிழில் எப்படி கூறலாம் என்று என்னிடம் கேட்டார்.

நானும், இன்னொரு நண்பரும் வெகு நேரம் யோசித்து "ஒப்பிடு" என்று கூறலாம் என்று சொன்னோம். இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி எங்கள் அனைவரையும் யோசிக்க வைத்தது. நாம் அனைவரும் எந்த அளவுக்கு தமிழ் மொழியில் இருந்து விலகி நிற்கின்றோம் என்று எண்ணி பார்க்க வேண்டும். தகவல் தொழிநுட்பம் வளர்ந்த இந்த யுகத்தில் கண்டிப்பாக தமிழ் மொழியை மட்டும் வைத்துக்கொண்டு மற்ற நாடுகளுக்கு ஏன் மற்ற ஊருக்கு கூட போய் பிழைக்க முடியாது. ஆனால் அதையே காரணம் காட்டி தமிழை சாகடித்து கொண்டு இருக்கின்றோம்.

தமிழ் நாட்டில் உள்ள தமிழ் பேசும் மக்களில் நூற்றுக்கு எண்பது பேர் பள்ளி படிப்புக்கு பின் தமிழை எழுதுவது கிடையாது. கல்லூரி படிப்புகளில் கூட தமிழ் கிடையாது. மின்னஞ்சல் வந்ததில் இருந்து யாரும் கடிதம் எழுதுவது கிடையாது. தமிழ் எழுதுவது பள்ளி படிப்பு முடிந்ததும் நின்று விடுகிறது. பெற்றோர்கள் தம் பிள்ளைகள் தமிழில் பேசுவதை விரும்புவது இல்லை. அம்மா, அப்பா என்று அழைப்பதை விட "டாடி", "மம்மி" என்று அழைக்கவே ஆசைப்படுகிறார்கள். பெற்றோர்கள் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளை தமிழ் படிக்க கூட விடுவதில்லை. பிற நாட்டின் மொழியை கற்று கொள்ளவே விரும்புகிறார்கள்.

அரசியல்வாதிகள் போல தமிழை மட்டும் கற்றுக்கொள்ள வேண்டும், வேற மொழியே கற்றுக்கொள்ள கூடாது என்று நான் சொல்லவில்லை. எல்லா மொழியும் கற்று கொள்ள வேண்டும் ஆனால் அதற்கு முன்னர் தாய் மொழியை முதலில் கற்றுக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பதே என் ஆசை. இன்று இருபத்தி ஐந்து வயதில் இருந்து முப்பத்தி ஐந்து வயதுக்குள் இருக்கும் எத்துனை பேருக்கு தமிழை தவறின்றி எழுத தெரியும்? ஒரு பக்கம் முழுவதும் தமிழில் தவறின்றி எழுத எத்துனை பேரால் முடியும்?

இந்த நிலை நீடித்தால் மிக விரைவில் தமிழ் என்ற மொழி எழுத்து வடிவத்தில் இருந்து மறைந்துவிடும். இன்னும் ஐம்பது வருடத்தில் தமிழ் எழுத்து வழக்கிலிருந்த அழிந்து விடும். நாம் அனைவரும் கிடைக்கும் சந்தர்பத்தில் கண்டிப்பாக தமிழில் எழுத, பேச வேண்டும். இந்த மொழியை அழியாமல் பாதுகாப்பது நம் கையில் உள்ளது. கட்டாயமாக ஒரு தமிழனிடம் பேசும் போது தமிழில் பேசுங்கள், தமிழில் எழுதுங்கள். இந்த முயற்சி கூட நாம் எடுக்கவில்லை என்றால் தமிழ் இனி விரைவில் சாகும்.

பேய் கரும்பு...

சில தினங்களுக்கு முன் பாலகுமாரன் எழுதிய "பேய் கரும்பு" புத்தகத்தை படிக்க சந்தர்ப்பம் கிடைத்தது (நான் தீவிர பாலகுமாரன் ரசிகனோ, இல்லை இது போன்ற புத்தகம் படிக்கும் பழக்கமோ என்னிடம் கிடையாது). இந்த புத்தகம் என்னை பெரிதும் பாதித்தது.

பட்டினத்தாரின் வாழ்க்கையை சொல்லும் கதையில் நம் வாழ்க்கைக்கு நிறைய பாடங்களையும் சொல்லி கொடுக்கிறது இந்த நூல். முதல் சில பக்கங்களிலேயே பாலகுமாரன் நம்மை கவேரிபூம்பட்டினத்துக்கு கொண்டு சென்று விடுகிறார். கடல் வாணிபத்தையும், அதன் சூட்சமதையும், அதில் உள்ள ஆபத்துகளையும் மிக அழகாய் நம் கண்முன்னே கொண்டுவந்து தருகிறார்.

அந்த கதையின் முதல் பாதியில் பாலகுமாரன் என்ற எழுத்தாளனின் படைப்பு திறன் வெளிபடுகிறது. பாலகுமாரனின் பொதுஅறிவு, எழுதும் விஷயத்தில் அவருக்கு இருக்கும் ஆழ்ந்த ஞானம் எல்லாம் என்னை பிரமிக்க வைத்தது. கடல் வணிகத்தின் அத்தனை விஷயங்களையும் ஆராய்ந்து மிக அருமையாக கண்முன் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுத்துள்ளார்.

பூம்புகார் நகரத்தின் அழகு, அங்கு வாழ்த்த மக்களின் வாழ்க்கை முறை, அவர்களின் பண்டம் மாற்றும் முறை என்று எல்லாம் என் கண்முன் நடந்தது போன்ற உணர்வை பெற்றேன். இதற்கு முன் சில புத்தகங்களை படித்திருக்கிறேன் ஆனா இந்த அளவுக்கு ஈர்க்கப்படவில்லை.

அந்த கதையில் வரும் மருதவாணர் ஓலை சுவடியில் " காதற்ற ஊசியும் வாராது காண் கடை வழிக்கே" என்று எழுதி வைத்து விட்டு சென்றதும் பட்டினத்தார் வாழ்கையில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றங்கள் மற்றும் பட்டினத்தார் வாழ்க்கையை பற்றி புரிந்துகொள்ளுதலையும் மிக அருமையாய் படைத்தது இருப்பார் பாலகுமாரன்.

என்னை மிகவும் கவர்ந்த இந்த நூல் என்னுள் சில கேள்விகளையும் எழுப்பியுள்ளது. நன்றி பாலகுமாரன் அவர்களே.

Trip to Heaven – Part 3

As planned we got up @ 4 .00 am on Sunday morning and came to breakfast table by 5 .00 am. We booked our cab by 5.20 so that we can get the ticket to Jungfrau and catch the Golden pass train @ 6.05 from Interlaken OST.

All went well as planned and we all got into the Golden pass train from Interlaken OST. After about 1 hr of journey we reached a place called “Lauterbrunnen”. We had a connecting train (a narrow gauge) from this place to a place called Wengen. It was a wonderful journey and very scenic all thru the way. We took another connecting train from Wengen to Jungfrau and the travel from Wengen to Jungfrau is awesome.

The travel from Wengen to Jungfrau is worth a mention here. It is close to 40 miles travel and all the way the track run into mountain and you will never get a chance to look the outside world. I wonder the construction and the time it was constructed. They started this work way back on 1902 and completed the entire work by 1916. We reached Jungfrau after 1 hr journey.

Jungfrau is the top of Europe and it is at a height of close to 3700m (11ooo feet). They have a observatory at the top of the peak and a ICE palace. You can see the entire Alps mountain range from Jungfrau and it a treat to watch. One of my life time dream came to true on that day. We went to place called “Plateau” and felt like we are somewhere in Artic or Antartic (the temperature was close to -20 c) and the wind did rest of the damage. We couldn’t manage to stay there for more than 5 mins continuously.

We spend around half a day in Jungfrau and then decide to start to the next destination “Schilthorn”. You have a revolving restaurant at this place and at an altitude of 2969m (close to 9500 feet). We came all the way to Lauternbrunnen and then took a Cable car to a place called Murren. We then took a train to Murren station and then walked for 15 mins to reach another cable car station in Murren.

We took 2 more cable car ride and finally reached “Schilthorn”. The restaurant in Schiltorn is a 360 revolving restaurant (costlier) and it takes one complete rotation in 1 hour time. We heard that this place came in some old James bond movie.

We reached Interlaken OST by 7 pm in the evening after a satisfying day. We then finished our dinner in the so called Indian restaurant (Shalimar). Our plan for Monday is to visit Mt Titlis, Luzeren and Mt Pilatus. We planned for our next day trip and then went to sleep by 10 pm.

Trip to Heaven – Part 2

By 7.30 am the Airbus A720 took off from T5 and gained altitude steadily. I felt asleep as soon as I enjoyed the take off. After about 1 hour time I was awaked by my friend to have my breakfast. I usually won’t have anything in flight except cookies. I just had coffee and slept for another 30 mins before we got a announcement about landing. It was a short fly to Zurich, about 1 hour and 50 mins. We had a safe landing in Zurich at around 9.20 am local time.

We took an underground train to reach the immigration area which is one station away from the landing area. We cleared the immigration without any problem and were out of Zurich airport soon as we don’t have any bags checked in. As per the itinerary we went to the Zurich railway station which is just opposite to the airport immigration point and took a Swiss rail pass for 4 days. In Swiss all the places are accessible via train and cheapest way to get along is to get a Rail pass. You can go anywhere in Swiss using this rail pass and some places you may be asked get tickets additional to your rail pass however you will get 25 to 50 % concession on those tickets.

It will work out very cheaply if you get a group rail pass for 4, 8 or 22 days accordingly to your travel plan rather than getting tickets for individual journeys. Our plan for day one is to visit Rhine falls which is the Switzerland’s largest waterfall and then travel to Interlaken where we booked our hotel for 3 days. We took a train from Zurich airport to a place called “Winterthur” and from there to Rhine falls.

We were amused to see the quality of the trains in Swiss. There are 2 decks and a restaurant in almost all trains. Cleanliness is the other name to Switzerland. One more important thing to mention about Swiss train service is their punctuality. All the trains start dot on time and will reach the destination (all the stations in between) on time without a delay of even half a minute. If your station is expected to arrive at 6.52 pm then you can get down from the train @ 6.52 pm without even seeing the station name (Provided your watch is set to local time correctly).

Coming back to the waterfall, we heard the roaring sound of the falls once we got down from the train and we started walking towards the falls. It was really a wonderful sight of seeing one of the biggest waterfalls in Europe and we all thoroughly enjoyed the scenic view of that place. We took a boat ride in that falls and had nice time in Rhine falls. The climate was too good on that particular day. It was bright and sunny so we had a great view of the falls and entire place around the falls.

After having spent more than 3 hours in the falls we decide to head towards the hotel which was 2 hours travel from Zurich. We came all the way to Zurich airport and then took a train to central railway station. We got all the connections trains as planned and reached Interlaken by 6 in the evening. We got down one station before our actual destination (thanks to the female who gave us wrong direction and special thanks to Umesh who wished to explore Swiss by walking all the way to the hotel) and walked more than 3 miles to reach the hotel by 7 pm in the evening.

We checked in and refreshed ourselves before rushing to the dinner table. After a good dinner we planned for the next day sight seeing places and hit the bed by 11 pm. We decided to catch the 6.05 am train to visit Jungfrau next day.

Trip to Heaven – Part 1...

May 3rd is one of the memorable days in life. One of my life time dreams came true on this D day. I never dreamt of this happening so soon. It all happened just like that and I am still surprised and in cloud nine.

My dream was to see Switzerland in my life time and it came true last week. Yes I was holidaying in Switzerland for 4 days and enjoyed thoroughly. We (I & My friends) started casually talking about holidaying in Switzerland in the month of May without any big plans or even idea about what to see, where to go and stuffs like that. The very thought of going to Switzerland made me feel like flying and I asked one of my friend to book flight ticket so that we can take of the rest after.

My friend mailed me the itinerary on first week of April and I was thrilled. We then slowly started preparing our overall itinerary. We completed the whole process of planning our trip and booking hotel just one day before our trip :). One of friend is staying in Lester came to my home on Friday night (May2nd) so that we can reach the airport on time without any fuss on Saturday morning.

The plan is to reach Swiss on Saturday morning and visit few places that we already planned for next 4 days and come back to London on 6th (Tuesday) night. Honestly we didn’t plan anything expecting knowing the names of the place to be visit. We hit the bed very late in the night after packing our back packs and last minute discussion on do’s and don’ts.

I set the alarm for 3 am so we can reach airport on time. We all had hardly 3 hrs of sleep. I have already done an online check in and printed our boarding pass so we had plenty of time in airport. We reached Heathrow T5 by 5 am and our flight was @ 7.20 am. We cleared the security and did some shopping at the duty free shops and boarded the A720 BA flight to Zurich by 7.00 am.

Can anyone tell me the secret of getting good rating during the performance rating?

I am damn sure that it is not at all related to Performance, Hardwork etc (at least in majority of the cases).

Snowfall…

On a lazy Sunday morning @ around 8 30 am I heard my friend knocking my room door, I was not in a mood to get up from the bed however when he asked me to take a look at the streets from my window I know what he is talking about. Yes, it is snowing beautifully outside.

Moment I realised that it is snowing outside I jumped from my bed and came out of my room searching for camera and battery. I took my camcorder, digi cam and came down running with my friend.

I was in cloud nine when I saw snow. All these years I never seen snow and was longing for the same. I took more than 100 snaps and enjoyed the moment thoroughly. We played like kids in the snow and I got no words to describe the happiness. A long time wish of mine came true this Sunday.

Trip to Birmingham …

As the first experience of renting a car in UK and driving in the motorways without Sat Nav was a huge success we planned to repeat the same one more time. This time we planned our trip to Balaji Temple in Birmingham.

Last time we took a MPV (Vauxhall Zafira) so we decided to hire sedan model for this trip. My friend called the rental agency and booked a Ford Mondeo and confirmed all the details. We (I & my manager) went to the rental agency on Friday evening only to hear that they don’t have Ford mondeo available at that point of time and they only have the Vauxhall Zafira (Which we already rented for the first trip).

I was irritated by this and thought of cancelling the whole plan. After few minutes of negotiations we got Ford focus. I went to the gas station to fill the tank and then parked the vehicle in the nearest parking lot. We planned to start early in the morning @ around 6 30 am so that we can reach the temple on time. We also expected a huge crowd in the temple so wanted to be there at the earliest to get a good dharshan.

The next day morning we all got up by 7 am and started only by 9 30 am. We don’t have GPS with us and all we have it to follow the printed route that we got from Google map. I know the route to reach M3 and from there I need to depend on the Google map to catch M40. We need to catch M40 and drive close to 90 miles in M40 to reach Birmingham.

Somehow we got into M40 and I accelerated so that we can reach our destination soon. After driving for more than 25 miles we realised that we are driving in the wrong direction (Thanks to umesh who navigated us to this direction as always). Whenever umesh has Map in his hand we are assured that we will miss an exit or will drive in wrong direction.

I took an exit from M4 and then took a U turn. We drove all the way back to M3 and merged into M40 (this time in the correct direction) towards Birmingham. M40 was congested this time because of an accident. We lost more than an hour because of the traffic and umesh.

After few miles of drive in M40 we took a break and had breakfast in the Burgerking. We relaxed for sometime and then started your travel. We reached Birmingham by 1 30 pm and found the temple without much of a trouble.

The temple was nice and calm. It was built in a traditional way and was very pleasant to our eyes. We had nice dharshan of Lord Balaji and spent more than an hour in the temple. We had dharshan of Vinayagar, Hanuman, Lakshmi & Murugar which made all of us really happy.

We started from the temple by 2.30 pm and again thanks to umesh I took a wrong exit in a roundabout only to drive 10 more miles before hitting M40 towards London. The return journey was nice and cool as there was no heavy traffic. I got into the right most lanes and once again clocked my highest speed in UK motorway (more than 200 km/hr).

The total trip was around 350 miles and we came home safely by 6 pm in the evening. Overall it was a good experience and superb drive.

Confused ...

I came to London on a beautiful Sunday morning in November last year. It was winter that time. Day started much late and it became absolute dark in the afternoon. It was a different experience for me.

I have been to many major cities in India and I found London is unique from all of them. The streets are neatly maintained and clearly signed. It has got a well planned transport system in the world. London has got a wonderful public transport system in the form of TUBE (Underground trains). The London tube covers all the 6 zones. It is fast and frequent. In some places you can see tubes are running at 4 different levels. I was amazed about the London tube service and the way it was planned and constructed.

Next most important aspect of London is each and every place has a city centre and shopping centre at the centre of the council. All major chain of shops is present near the city centre.

London has got many tourists attraction in his central part (busiest part of London) like London eye, London Bridge, London dungeon, London Aquarium etc so you can get a train or tube to reach them in real quick time.

Black cabs (Taxis) in London are not changed from the olden days. London taxis still have the traditional look and it is an attraction by itself. There are no skyscrapers or modern buildings in London which is a surprise to many visitors.

London motorways have got no speed limits. You can stand on your cars accelerator and fly on the motorways. I took rental car and had a nice drive in M3; I clocked my top speed of 120 MPH in London motorway which I haven’t even dreamed off. The motorways are clearly signed and everyone will drive considerately. No hard shoulders, no overtaking without signals and no changing of lanes unless it is necessary. If you want to speed up then catch the right most lane and you are free to reach your destination ASAP.

In spite of all these fun, I am not really happy about this life here at London. London is the most expensive city in the world. You need to get a license if you own a TV in your home. I got a TV for 100 pounds and I was asked to get a licence for 1 yr which cost me 140 pounds :(. If you are blind then you are eligible for 50% concession on your license cost :)

Finding a house for rent is next to impossible in London. You need to have a proper credit history (if you are visiting for the first time then you need to have a strong reference). After all the credit checks and reference checks you need to pay 6 weeks deposit and one month rent in advance. Not sure why they do a credit check if they are going to get a 6 weeks deposit and 1 month rent in advance:(

You are free to get a racist comment at least once in a week and especially when you roam alone in the night. You will be booed and teased by the teenagers without any fault of yours. A recent survey in London says 70% of the London Teenagers carry a knife with them.

I never had been away from my family for more than 15 days together from my childhood. In the last 4 months I started realising the worth of so many things in my life. I started missing my family, friends, my bike, my car, weekend @ Besant nagar beach, Night show on Friday nights, a long drive in ECR etc etc.

I have pounds in my hand (one of the powerful currency in the world) I can buy anything I want and I can roam anywhere I want. I don’t see the josh in this life. I am not desperate to earn lakhs and lakhs or cores and cores as few wish. I am not desperate to visit countries. All I want is to be with my loved ones. I am confused …

சமர்ப்பணம் ...

நான் இந்த பக்கங்களை எழுத முதல் காரணம் என் நண்பன் அருண். நாங்கள் இருவரும் ஏறத்தாழ ஒன்பது ஆண்டுகளாக நல்ல நண்பர்களாக இருக்கின்றோம். அருண் முதலில் எழுத ஆரம்பித்தவுடன் என்னையும் எழுத சொன்னான் ஆனால் எனக்கு சிறு தயக்கம் இருந்தது.

சில காலங்கள் மற்றவர்கள் எழுதுவதை கவனிக்கும் பொழுது நமக்கும் எழுத வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் பிறக்கின்றது. இந்த நான்கு மாத காலம் நிறைய நண்பர்களின் பக்கங்களை படித்து பார்த்தேன். இன்று எனக்கும் எழுத வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் பிறந்தது.

இங்கு என் உலகத்தில் நடக்கும் அனைத்தையும் எழுத போகின்றேன். நான் சந்திக்கும் மனிதர்கள், என்னை பாதிக்கும் சம்பவங்களை அனைத்தையும் இங்கு வடிக்க போகின்றேன்.
